Selective Nerve Block

By firstly using numbing local anesthesia, our dedicated pain specialists then target the lumbar transforaminal region of the client — which includes the lower back, legs, and feet. Then through direct epidural injection, our steroid procedures begin quickly working and reduce inflammation and targeted lumbar pain for the client.

What is a Selective Nerve Block?

Transforaminal injection can help relieve pain in your lower back, legs and feet caused by sciatica, herniated discs or other back problems. You have nerves that run from your spinal cord out to your legs. When one of those nerve “roots” (the end closest to your spinal cord) gets irritated and inflamed due to a damaged disc or other condition, it causes pain that can radiate from your back to your legs and feet. A medication can help reduce the inflammation and alleviate the pain. It’s injected into your back, into the area between your spine and spinal cord. This is a procedure that in many cases can be an alternative to spine surgery. It is also a procedure that can be performed for patients who have had pain despite spine surgery (ie.post-laminectomy syndrome/failed back surgery syndrome)
